Madonna /mdn/ (born Madonna Louise Ciccone) (b.1958), American pop singer and actress. She rose to international stardom in the mid-1980s through her records and accompanying videos, cultivating her image as a sex symbol and frequently courting controversy. Among her singles are 'Holiday' (1983), while her albums include Like a Virgin (1984) and Erotica (1992). Probably her best-known film is Desperately Seeking Susan (1985).
